Frequently Asked QuestionsWhen was the election for Measure C?Tuesday, June 6, 2006.What is Measure C?Measure C is a $275,000,000 general obligation bond that will provide funding for much needed new schools and facility improvements in the Fontana Unified School District. Investing in new schools makes our community a better place to live, protects or improves local real estate values, and helps reduce crime. What will Measure C do?
Why do we need more neighborhood schools? Our District currently has 15 fewer schools to serve its current population than it needs. Local high schools have 1000 students more than they were built to accommodate. How much will it cost? Measure C will cost less than 16 cents a day on $100,000 of assessed, not market, property value. Measure C includes a Citizen's Oversight Committee and annual audits to ensure money is spent as promised. By law, no money can be spent on administrators' salaries or other operating costs. All costs are tax-deductible on your tax returns. Why now? Neighborhood schools desperately need to reduce serve overcrowding. The oldest school in the District is seventy-five years old, and the oldest portables are being used ten years longer than federal standards recommend. The problems will only get worse and repairs will only get more expensive, the longer we wait. How do I know the money won't be wasted? Measure C includes a Citizens'
Oversight Committee composed of a senior, taxpayer advocate, and business
person among others, who will monitor spending. The measure requires
independent annual audits to ensure money is spent as promised. No money can
be spent on administrators' salaries or other operating costs. By law, no
money can be spent on projects not specifically highlighted in the voter
pamphlet. Every dime goes toward repairing, upgrading, and building local
schools! If after viewing this website, you still have a question about Measure C, please feel free to email us at question@fontana4kids.com and we will answer your question and add it to the list of Frequently Asked Questions above.
